Temporomandibular Joint Disorders

Our patients who consult to our clinics usually come with the complaint of myofascial pain. These pains include pain that can progress to the jaw area, temples, neck and back.
Our patients generally experience pain when biting and chewing food,
Click, crackling sound when opening and closing the mouth
Locks in the jaw movement
Limitation in mouth opening
They come with such complaints.
We can also notice this situation with jaw joint pain that comes with the long duration of the procedures during dental treatments.
In the most common presentations to our clinics, complaints such as joint and muscle pain, click-click sound, deviation when opening the mouth (sideward tendency), limitation in mouth opening are also present.
Joint diseases may occur due to orthodontic disorders, missing teeth. In joint diseases caused by orthodontic disorder or degeneration has occurred in the joint orthodontic and prosthetic treatment can be started after the treatment.
We can usually see it together with clenching or grinding.
We can treat cases of reduced disc displacement with professional splints (which can be supported by Botox).
Surgical operation may be required if splint therapy is insufficient in the treatment of unreduced disc displacement cases. Guidance of dentist is important.
Some of the most commonly used plaques are:
Muscle relaxation splint
Stabilization splint
Anterior repositioning splint.
Our aim in these treatments is to relieve the complaints of our patients.
